Jubilee Bunting

A village celebration is taking place to celebrate The Queen’s 70 years on the throne with activities and attractions for the whole community – including a free party for the village children in the afternoon supported by The Crown Pub.

There’ll be plenty of opportunities to get involved and help out on the big day itself, but before then we’re looking to mark the occasion with some festive bunting starting at the centre of the village and streaming down the streets.

To make the most of this unique celebration we need your help!

There are two ways that you can contribute:

  1. Please donate any fabric or sheeting you may have in the Union Jack colours of red, white, and blue. It doesn’t matter if the fabric is patterned, as long as those key colours shine out!
  2. We need help to make the bunting! Any residents with a sewing machine, cutting or ironing skills, or even just a willingness to help make tea and coffee to cheer along our team of seamsters and seamstresses.

It’s not complicated: the pattern only needs one or two straight seams, and then we just attach the flags to a tape.

So novice sewers are welcome, as well as those of you who are more experienced. Bring your children along if they’d like to help too, as long as they’re supervised by an accompanying adult.

There’ll be a short meeting to explain the project further, before we set up our workshops during April and May when it best suits our volunteers. Your help will be much appreciated, whether you can just attend one session or more.

The sessions should be really good fun with a community spirit in creating something lovely for our village event, and hopefully, cake will be involved!

Please deliver fabric to organiser Bee de Rivaz at 7 Drury Lane, Hunsdon, Ware SG12 8NU.

Let us know if you’re interested in taking part by emailing Bee by 28th February.

While this isn’t primarily a fundraising event, there’ll be opportunities to raise funds for local causes. Profits from the day will be shared between The Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) fund and Arianna the real Wonder Woman fund.
