What’s involved?
Having a passion for their community, Parish Councillors volunteer their time. The Council meets on the third Monday evening 8 months a year. Our mission is to maintain and improve the parish for all residents and we need people from all backgrounds and experience to support this by getting involved in local projects and matters concerning Hunsdon, bringing your skills and expertise to the council and our parish.
What is the role of the Parish Council?
We are here for the local residents of Hunsdon and support the provision of services and facilities out of money raised through local council tax or grants . These range from the Sports Courts, Playground and Playing Field in the centre, the Allotments and the Dell. We are statutory consultees on all planning applications in the parish and represent the community’s interests to the district and county councils on matters such as highways and footpaths. We also determine how much money to raise through the council precept (our share of council tax) to deliver these services to the residents of the parish.

We need to confirm your eligibility so there is a simple form (DOWNLOAD HERE) for you to complete and an opportunity for you to tell us a little bit more about yourself. Once we have your application, we will invite you to meet the Parish Council and take your application forward.

The official bit!
- As there is no election called then the existing Council can co-opt new members
- Councillors are not paid and have to abide by a local government code of conduct.
- The Parish Council is a statutory body and therefore can only do the things for which the law gives it a power.
- Training is available and support will be found from colleagues and the Clerk to the Parish Council.
- The successful applicants will be the ones who receives the majority of votes at a meeting of the Parish Council. Should there be a tie it may be necessary to repeat the process until a majority is reached.
